Description
An Italian 18th century specimen marble table top, probably Tuscan. The veneered top comprises Verte Antico banding, a Sienna marble oval to the center with a verte antico interior, all set in a Breccia Rossa ground on a very thick slab of stone with a beveled edge. It is elegantly incorporated into a custom modernist wrought iron coffee table base with a wonderful rusticated and polished surface. Specimen stone table tops were especially sought after by Grand Tour British aristocrats in the 18th and early 19th centuries who often had tables built around them when they returned home.
