William IV Writing Table
William IV Writing Table
$3,500
Description
Fine William IV writing or side table of very clean architectural form, the well figured single board mahogany top over drawer and supported by trestle ends joined by turned stretcher, the whole made in rich timber and retaining a good, mellow surface. Desirable small scale.
The drawer bears an owner’s label to the reverse, reading “Mrs. W. Hadley of Arden, Barnt Green 1908.” Barnt Green was only a tiny village on the outskirts of Bromsgrove near Birmingham until the opening of the Birmingham – Gloucester Railway in 1840, around the time this table would have been made.
