Description

Outstanding early 19th century Swedish Folk Art mural (or bonad; also referred to as a kurbitz or kurbits) depicting the Annunciation, the Nativity, the Proclamation and Flight into Egypt, all the figures dressed in 18th century Swedish costume and executed in pleasing cheerful colors. These festive decorations were only displayed in Swedish homes during Christmas and other holidays and are rare to find outside the country and can no longer be exported. Finding a bonad of this scale and proportion in such good condition is rare and ones on canvas or linen are especially desirable.
