A pair of rare and ancient weathered sand-cast iron figural andirons with finials in the shape of almond eyed faces with tight widows’-peak headcoverings coming to a point in the middle of the forehead, in the fashion of Anne of Brittany, queen to Charles VIII, on square section tapering shafts with rune marks, over figures of winged lions, a medieval totem, on gothic arched trefoil bases, with L-shaped supporting back legs. Retaining original surface from centuries of use. Substantial and very heavy.
