Pair of English Cotswold School Andirons
Contact Yew Tree House at (212) 249-6612.
Fine pair of English wrought iron Cotswold school andirons in the manner of Ernest Gimson, having basket tops over hand-hammered shafts with flattened penny applied spit supports, standing on simple arched legs. Ernest Gimson, Ernest and Sidney Barnsley, Peter van der Waals and Gordon Russell and others known collectively as the Cotswold School began their careers in the Arts & Crafts movement which began in the last quarter of the 19th century. These andirons are typical of the products made by these craftsmen/designers who continued the Arts & Crafts traditions into the 20th century. These andirons have many similarities with Gimson's known output, but are undocumented and cannot be firmly attributed at this time.
