Unique pen and ink Folk Art drawing with calligraphy boarder depicting Napoleon triumphant in Russia (a French fantasy) with a French flag flying over a Russian palace surrounded by the trappings of war, his coat and the boarder profusely decorated with detailed penwork and hundreds of hidden faces worked into the design. A rare example of French patriotic Folk Art. Signed indistinctly. Most likely created by an enthusiastic supporter of the Emperor during his infamous Russian Campaign. While early dispatches were optimistic, what was meant to be a stunning victory led to one of the most disastrous defeats in military history. We believe this work was created before news of the terrible French losses made it back to France sometime before the winter of 1812.
