Four George III Hall Chairs

An exceptional set of four Irish Georgian grain painted hall chairs in the manner of Robert Manwaring having shaped crests, the backs of pierced design depicting the Maynard coat of arms and motto Manus Justa Nardus (A just hand is a precious ointment), over saddle seats, the bases consisting of conjoined “C” scrolls. The coat of arms are that of Baron Maynard of Wicklow (Ireland) and Estains (England) Provenance: Collection of Albert Hadley Several stools of this overall design are known, including a pair formerly at Coleshill House, Berkshire. Two chairs with later seats.
