Description

Very fine early 18th century oak cased brass dial clock by Richard Wood. This highly unusual and characterful case showing many quirks found in Welsh and Shropshire furniture and its not surprising to find the movement was made by one of the leading regional clockmakers of the time, Richard Wood of Shrewsbury (formerly from Cheshire, Wood established himself on High Street Shrewsbury in 1737). The hood with reverse breakfront profile over column cornered doors with applied wavy molding, the tombstone door with bog oak and holly inlaid star and bullseye window, the base with similarly shaped panel and standing on plinth base, the unusual brass cased weights with engraved decoration, the whole with exceptional patina.
