Most unusual 17th century English or welsh wainscot chair having a shaped and scroll carved crest over similarly carved rails, the central panel with fan shell and square foliate design, having shaped arms and turned supports and legs, the whole possessing fantastic color and patination. This chair is remarkable for several reasons: The back configuration is undocumented in that the panel is not framed into the rails but within its own stiles and is more reminiscent of the Scottish "Caqueteuse" chairs of the late 16th and early 17th centuries.
