High Style Regency Convex Mirror
Contact Yew Tree House at (212) 249-6612.
Very fine English Regency convex mirror, the crest with wrestling dragon and serpent, over turned frame with beaded and gilt ball decoration, over foliate carved base, the swirling foliage mirroring the tension exhibited in the cresting, the whole with water gilding and green and red patinated finish, surrounding original mercury glass convex plate. Regency convex mirrors with dragon crests are scarce, as are serpent decorated examples. The combination of the two are possibly unique and the over the top scale and subject matter are reminiscent of the Brighton Pavilion, the pinnacle of Regency design.
